Maternal Mental Health
It's more common than you might think to experience struggles during and/or after pregnancy, like postpartum depression, which characterized by increased sadness, a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed, and overwhelming feelings. It is estimated that 1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men experience some form of perinatal mood disorders (PMADs). In addition to or aside from postpartum depression, you might be dealing with postpartum anxiety, which can manifest as persistent worry, restlessness, or a sense of dread. For some, PMADs can involve more specific challenges such as postpartum OCD, where you might experience intrusive thoughts and compulsions that feel distressing and out of your control. These thoughts can be particularly disturbing, but it's important to remember they don't define you.
Living with symptoms of PMADs can feel isolating, but you are not alone. It is important to know that PMADs are highly treatable, and with the right care and support, you will be on the path towards feeling like yourself again.
