Kate Thompson
LISW, EMDR Therapist, ND, BIPOC, and Queer Affirming Therapist, Spanish speaking therapist
Kate (she/her) is a Licensed Independent Social Worker with a Master's Degree in Social Work from Miami University, where she also earned Bachelor's degrees in Social Work and Latin American, Latino/a, and Caribbean Studies. With more than five years of experience across inpatient, outpatient, community-based, and crisis settings, she has worked with individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, and complex personal histories.
In addition to her clinical work, Kate has experience supporting immigrant and refugee women and girls through advocacy and empowerment initiatives. She also spent time in the Dominican Republic working to promote female empowerment and expand educational access for children of migrants who lacked access to traditional educational settings. These experiences deepened her appreciation for the ways language and culture shape our experiences, identities, and understanding of the world.
Kate approaches therapy from a trauma-informed, relationship-centered perspective. She believes that the connection between client and therapist is one of the most powerful tools for healing and growth. Drawing from EMDR, CBT, DBT, ACT and mindfulness, she tailors treatment to each client's unique needs, strengths, and goals. Grounded in systems theory, Kate helps clients understand how their relationships, communities, and social environments influence the ways they experience themselves and the world around them. She believes therapy should make room for the full spectrum of human experience—including humor, joy, grief, frustration, and everything in between.
Outside of the office, Kate is an avid reader, coffee enthusiast, and music lover. While she is not exceptionally skilled at any of the instruments she has attempted to learn, she firmly believes in the healing and connective power of music.

What does trauma recovery mean to you?
“For me, trauma recovery is allowing the things that we have experienced to invite us into a deeper level of empathy and compassion both for ourselves and others. Recovery isn't about erasing the past but rather shifting the narrative for ourselves from the things that have happened to the resilience we have as survivors. Recovery is accepting the pages of our story that have already been written and deciding how we want the story to go from here. As Brene Brown wrote “Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light."
