Training Description: (Suicide is Painful— June 15th)
This course serves to help reframe the way suicidality is perceived through the lens of complex trauma and dissociation. We intend to provide methods to treat suicidality instead of simply preventing it or delaying attempt. We will provide methods to treat through a somatic and EMDR treatment lens.
Objectives:
Define one simple formula to conceptualize the etiology of suicidality and apply this to information gathering and history taking from Phase 1 of EMDR.
Evaluate three ways in which childhood trauma & neglect contribute to the formation of S/I. Recommend negative cognitions or target selection that would support an exploration of this theme in case conceptualization in Phase 1 and Phase 3 work.
Identify three different etiologies of suicidal ideation (memory, social isolation, subjective isolation, endogenously driven isolation) and demonstrate how you would develop your case conceptualization and select EMDR targets using the 3 prong approach.
Differentiate one method to incorporate qualitative, rather than quantitative, understanding of S/I into your current therapeutic approach. Within this framework, analyze ways that Phase 3 Assessment can be used to increase social connection and decrease isolation.
Analyze a variety of case studies highlighting different themes around extreme abuse and determine how EMDR protocols can be applied to modify Phase 3-7 work.
Design a case study that can decrease the intensity of trauma/memory-driven S/I utilizing one of the suggested EMDR protocols.
