Due to the development of the internet, the existence of the extreme organized abuse of children is no longer a valid debate.  While much research and media interest has been given to the perpetrators and organizations, the victims of torture-based child trafficking remain largely unknown, unrecognized, and un-recognized by institutions and society at large.  Even in fields that treat trauma, how to help victims of that kind of trauma is pretty widely debated.  

This day-long workshop addresses this need in as practical and direct a way as possible.  Less an exploration of how that abuse is perpetrated, we will be presenting micro- and macro- ways of helping a person begin to recover from that degree of abuse.  This includes:  recognizing the impacts and symptoms of that degree of traumatization; the very specific needs of that person in a therapeutic relationship; addressing the need for and development of functional resources and community as necessary to recovery; and some specific therapeutic practices and approaches to empower the therapist.  In particular, this training will serve as a follow up from the previous training “Multiple Realities” and focus heavily on practicum and experiential learning.  You will be shown techniques from Sensorimotor and EMDR therapy, with considerations in mind for this population. 

Objectives: 

  1. Explain 3 biases that traditional dyadic psychotherapy maintains with OEA victims.  Explore how to ethically apply Phase 1 work in a trauma sensitive manner.  

  2. Name at least two of the intentional effects of forced perpetration.  Describe how EMD and EMDr can help with desensitization and stabilization. 

  3. Identify 3 methods to externalize intrasystem communication to decrease flooding between parts utilizing EMDR Phase 2 and Sensorimotor techniques. 

  4. Identify at least 3 organizers of experience and the relevance of ontological ranking of those organizers.  Demonstrate the ability to apply EMDR Phase 3-7 in relation to this community of survivors.

  5. Implement at least one resourcing technique from EMDR Phase 2 to support clinician emotional regulation.

No EMDR Training Required: These programs are open to all clinicians including those with no prior EMDR training. This is NOT an EMDR Basic Training. Attendees should be advised that if they have no prior EMDR training that it is recommended they complete the full EMDR basic training and have experience in using EMDR with this client population before using this material. Eligibility for EMDRIA Credits is restricted to those who have completed an EMDRIA-Approved Basic EMDR Training. Attendees with no prior EMDR training are not eligible to receive EMDRIA Credits.
