She is a co-founder of Freedom a la Cart and is active in twelve step recovery.

At the heart of Cora’s work she believes “that we all have perfect, brilliant souls, and that with life, they get schwacked with hurt, dirt, trauma, violence and people telling us to stuff our emotions and stories and never let them out. Therapy then—with mindfulness, empathy, listening, and homework, let’s our souls shine out again.” In essence, her main intervention is caring for everyone on earth, and therapy is a concentrated form of that.

In Cora’s free time, she loves being a single mama to her twin teenagers, cooking, metro parks and especially laughter, be it via Robin Williams, the Simpsons, standup comedy or the Muppets.

What does trauma recovery mean to you?

“When I was young, my mom and I read the book To Kill a Mockingbird, and then we watched the movie. We talked about Boo Radley, how everyone was so afraid of him, and he didn't have any friends, or a real life, or any hope of ever having a sweetheart, a job, a home, of going on trips or hearing live jazz or anything, really. But Scout talked with him--she treated him like a man, a human, and even a helpful community member. She saw his kindness and worth, and thanked him for being there for her. So that's what trauma recovery is to me--welcoming people back to the heart of humanity, where we all belong. ”
