Evan Wilkerson

MSW, LISW, EMDR Therapist, RYT 200, eMBER trained, iREST Level 2 Practitioner

Evan Wilkerson is a Licensed Independent Social Worker with a Bachelor’s Degree in Strategic Communication and a Masters Degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University. Evan has completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training and an additional meditation teacher training through Yoga on High, as well as an eMBER (mindfulness-based emotional resilience) training, enabling him to teach trauma-informed yoga. Moreover, he is trained in iRest Yoga Nidra.

Evan’s background includes working with clients on a broad spectrum of therapeutic goals - including substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, LGBTQ issues, anger management, phobias, and more. His counseling philosophy is based on the understanding that no matter what we have experienced, there is an aspect of us all that is whole and complete just as it is. By continually orienting to this ground of wholeness, he believes we can fundamentally alter our relationship to our problems — shifting them from something that defines us to something that simply needs to be investigated. He is also passionate about pointing people inside to find their own answers, and teaching skills that help clients show up as their best selves.

Evan’s primary therapeutic modalities include EMDR, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Parts Work, Mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Therapy. He is also interested in somatic approaches that integrate the wisdom and knowledge of the body into the therapeutic process. Because of this, he also loves to weave in an understanding of the nervous system through the lens of polyvagal theory. Most importantly, Evan believes that each person knows what is best for themself. He aims to empower everyone to make their own decisions based on their own inner knowing.

When he’s not in the office, you can find him meandering through the woods, camping with friends, meditating, practicing yoga or spending time with his family. He looks forward to meeting you!

What does trauma recovery mean to you?

“Trauma Recovery is an inner journey in which residues of the past are resolved so that we can be fully present in our lives - now. By integrating the past, we create an opportunity to experience a future that is free of unnecessary suffering. It is a path of subtraction, in which we shed the things that are ultimately not true for us. In the absence of these things, we naturally remember our inherent worth, dignity and wholeness. In my opinion, the first step of this journey is to recognize that there is something in each of us that has survived every experience - no matter how difficult. It’s from this place that the work of recovery is possible, and it's ultimately this place into which the journey ends. In this way, trauma recovery is not linear but circular because the beginning and the end are actually one. ”
